MKFC is pleased to announce that the club will be affiliating with the DV7 Soccer Academy, a new venture started by David Villa and his team. The DV7 Academy is a growing network of international youth soccer clubs using the same coaching methods and abiding by similar philosophies and values. Under the DV7 umbrella, clubs will operate on their own, under their own name, but also share in the benefits of the larger organization: a renowned curriculum, access to experienced coaches, increased media exposure, connections to sponsors and sports brands, opportunities for international travel, camps, tournaments, and cultural exchanges -- all with the support of David Villa, a globally-recognized professional soccer player and current NYCFC captain.

In our talks with DV7, part of the relationship's appeal was DV7's respect for MKFC and the ethos the club. By connecting with DV7, the Kickers can grow in many new ways while retaining the unique identity and culture that has been built over many years.

The club's introduction to DV7 was made by current MKFC U9 and U12 coach Hector Nunez, who will become a DV7 coach placed with MKFC as the Director of Coaching. Hector will also coach the MKFC 2005 team. Part of Hector's role will be customizing the DV7 methodology to the current Kickers system. With three years of experience coaching Kickers teams and establishing himself in the MKFC and NYC soccer communities, coupled with 15 years of coaching in Catalonia, Hector will be able to tailor the DV7 program to the specific needs of the Kickers and oversee the implementation with all of the coaches in each age group.

The methodology, based on FC Barcelona and Spanish National Team principles, is a possession-oriented, attacking style that contains many similarities to the Kickers current way of playing, and the nature of the exercises will be familiar to MKFC teams. However, the detail and breadth of the DV7 curriculum will improve the organization of the club's trainings, and the more structured plans will help MKFC coaches provide the highest standard of practices for all of the age groups.

DV7's coaching curriculum was designed by Josep Gombau Balaguer, who is the football director of the David Villa Academy. Josep has extensive experience as a coach at both the youth and professional level. He holds a UEFA Pro License and spent years coaching at FC Barcelona, where he developed FCB Escola (FC Barcelona's international program of soccer schools). At the professional level, he has coached first division teams in both Hong Kong and Australia.

Victor Onate is the Executive Director of the DV7 Academy and will be spearheading the work off of the field. He was the Chief Marketing Officer of Valencia Football Club (Spain) from 2003 to 2007, and founder and owner of VOS Sportsmarketing, VOS USA, and ACTYVOS Group. Selected clients include organizations and brands like the Spanish National Soccer Team, La Liga, FC Barcelona, Real Madrid, Atletico de Madrid, Valencia CF, New York City FC, Major League Soccer, Adidas, Movistar, Coca Cola, Orange, Verizon and Heineken. Actyvos Group also manages the careers of top players like Gerard Pique, Ivan Rakitic and Ander Herrera.

David Villa currently plays for NYCFC in the MLS and is one of the league's most recognizable players. He has played the top-flight teams of FC Barcelona, Valencia CF, Atletico de Madrid, Sporting de Gijon, Real Zaragoza, and now NYCFC. At the international level, he holds the Spanish National Team's record for most international goals scored and has won numerous titles for both club and country, including the Champions League, La Liga, the Spanish King's Cup, the 2008 European Cup, and the 2010 World Cup, where he was the tournament's top scorer with five goals.

MKFC looks forward to the connection with David Villa and the DV7 team, and expects this special relationship will ultimately improve the soccer experience for each player and coach in the club, both on and off the field.
